LOM has recently completed the design of a new 50,000sqm headquarters office building for the National Bank of Oman in the capital city, Muscat. The building will occupy a prominent site in the country on the main Al Sultan Qaboos highway between the airport and the centre of Muscat diagonally opposite the iconic Grand Mosque. Piling and excavation work is completed and construction in now under way, with the building due for completion and occupation in 2017.

The sensitive siting opposite the Grand Mosque combined with the scale and importance of the institution make this an important building in the country. The aim is to create a contemporary Omani landmark head office for the bank and for the city. The building will provide high quality office space, a large head office bank branch and a striking internal atrium inspired by Oman’s dramatic wadi gorges.

The atrium, influenced by the Omani wadi, will bring together people, water, filtered sunlight and activity to create a memorable and dramatic interior space. This space balances public access with security requirements to create a multifunctional facility that serves as both a staff resource and semi-public and event space.
