LOM has been working with school in Harrow since 2007 when we established a masterplan to solve the building’s limitations and shape its future development needs. With the final addition of a new two storey block the school can now accommodate a 4FE intake (480 pupils in total).
The first phase of works remodelled administrative areas and the second phase transformed the inner courtyard, a dead space, by installing a prefabricated pod with music, library and ICT facilities. The new heart to the building complimented the school’s specialist focus on music and allowed the temporary teaching cabins to be removed increasing the size of the playground. We also rationalised the school’s multiple levels to create a fully accessible environment for wheel chair users.
In 2012 we returned to look at the possibility of expanding for an additional FE on the school’s tight footprint. Solutions were examined throughout the feasibility stage with a focus on external space, improving health and safety concerns and working with the adjacent Infants’ school to reorganise the site. We moved the carpark, separating traffic from the pupils accessing the playing field, enlarged the existing hall and created a four classroom extension.
Pinner Park Junior School has been able to make the best use of its external space and is prepared for the future all whilst remaining fully operational.
