Congratulations to Grant Corton, James Fellows, Chris Pyle and Silvia Valeri who completed Dig Deeper, the construction industry adventure race in the Lake District, on Friday 23 September 2016. The LOM team came 2nd in the Combined Age Over 140 category, 5th in the Mixed Team category and 18th overall out of the 39 teams.
Describing the race Grant, senior associate of LOM, said: “It was a gruelling five hour challenge that included running, kayaking and mountain biking. The 27 mile route involved navigating the fells with steep climbs and falls of 1250 meters.”
Silvia, architect of LOM, added: “It’s been a very challenging experience – not only involving physical preparation but the ability to plan a route and orienteering. The race was very tough but always rewarding thanks to breathless views and incredible team support! The worst bit was the last uphill cycle back to the hostel. Very exhausting indeed!”
James, associate of LOM, thought the race bought out the Boy Scout in him although he didn’t enjoy it when Chris, also an associate of LOM, got the team lost. Chris’s highlight on the other hand was turning round to see that Grant hadn’t quite made it into the kayak! All the team agree though that they can’t wait to do it again next year.
Dig Deeper is held annually in aid of 353, a charity set up to help bereaved families and those with life changing injuries coming back from the conflict in Afghanistan, and Anthony Nolan a charity that helps save the lives of people with blood cancer.
