Tigné Point

This residential and public realm project is the final phase of MIDI Plc`s development of Tigné Point in Malta. Designed by LOM, the scheme comprises the Q3 residential tower set within 7,000sqm of landscaped public space that contains the Garden Battery – one of a series of 19^th century artillery fortifications on the island.

Q3 is designed to maximise views out towards the island’s capital, Valletta and to the Mediterranean Sea. It has a stepped profile to accommodate large penthouse terraces, each with its own swimming pool. The south façade has a staggered plan, with large balconies that provide shading. There are 63 apartments with generous floor-to-ceiling heights and extensive glazing to give them an airy feel.

Four levels of basement car parking are provided for residents so that the upper levels of the scheme are car free.

An existing structure on the site will be built out to form a new market plaza. It’s terraced roof will form a public meeting place with space for market stalls and community activities. The lower level will provide scope for future retail and food and beverage outlets. The plaza steps down to meet the Garden Battery and there is also a panoramic glazed lift.

The restored Garden Battery is the centrepiece of the scheme. The landscaping is being sensitively designed to provide accessible public walkways and create an attractive garden setting with stone terraces, stepped seating and green spaces planted with native species, a water feature and reflection pools. Public information boards that highlight the site`s history will be provided along the battery path that leads to the nearby Fort Tigné.

LOM has also designed a pedestrian bridge that will link a nearby shopping mall to the seafront promenade.
