To revive a derelict Victorian waterworks in Hampton, Richmond upon Thames, LOM has proposed a mixed-use scheme converting its Grade II listed buildings into residential and office space.
The Hampton Waterworks redevelopment will create 37 high quality homes, ranging from one to three bedroom units, as well as 290sqm of coworking space.
The site holds two large pump houses, along with former workers cottages and a storehouse. Our design will retain each building’s character and historic details. Some of the buildings will be extended to give commercial viability to the scheme. For the site’s pump houses, for example, we have designed contemporary, glazed roof extensions that are set back from the parapet edges. Their new materials have been carefully selected to complement the existing structure and reference the buildings’ industrial heritage.
The site will be landscaped to provide private gardens or terraces, as well as a children’s play area and communal garden. There will also be a shared roof terrace and parking.
